A little mischief... a lot of fun
'Twas the day before break, and all through the school,
Every student wore PJs, it was totally cool.
Teachers and students, all full of glee
knowing celebrations in classrooms were all but ready.
When out of one classroom there arose such a clatter,
We sprang to the door to see what was the matter.
When what to our wondering eyes did appear,
But a mischievous elf, causing chaos in there.
It was a cute little elf, so lively and small,
Breaking the rules, having a ball.
"Now glitter! Now snowflakes!" He shouted with glee
"I'll blizzard the room, and they'll never catch me!"
But catch him we did, and Officer Kessler we called,
Who came speeding quite quickly down our school halls.
He arrived on the scene with his lights all aglow,
And was shocked to find everything covered in snow.
He interviewed witnesses and read out the rights
and checked that the tiny handcuffs weren't TOO tight
Then he walked the elf briskly out to his car
As the children watched wide-eyed from afar.
Seeing the children excited and merry
Kessler decided to tone down his “scary”
The elf, though mischievous, had brought some delight,
But rules are rules, and wrongs must be right.
But as he reviewed the rules and wrote a citation,
He also did mention the children's elation.
He let him off easy, that elf on a shelf,
And reminded the students to behave themselves.
The elf gave a wink as he hopped in the car,
And Kessler drove off, not going too far.
For the spirit of fun, though it caused some dismay,
Was a part of the joy of that pre-holiday day.
Reminded of rules, everyone returned to their parties,
Including the elf, who said he was sorry.
As the day came to an end and the bell rang out clear,
A tiny voice shouted, "Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!"
